The Highly Irregular My Little Buddy News Letter
September 1999
From the pen of Ian Venner:
Announcing the imminent release of My Little Buddy 2.60
Well Autumn (Fall) is upon us and the changing face of the landscape has prompted me to
look at My Little Buddy and wonder how we could give him a face lift. The answer was a 3rd
toolbar style that actually opens up a whole host of interface possibilities, Skins! My
Little Buddy is now skinable, and the initial release will come with 4 different skins
available. This concept will allow you to have an infinite variety of possible looks for
My Little Buddy, and even create a look and feel all of your own. This process is a simple
one and any one who would like details of what is required for a skin in advance of the
release should contact me.
Version 2.60 of MLB will also have full integration to DeskAlarm from Bit Choreography, an
excellent desktop alarm facility that means you get all your alarms even if the Palm®
Desktop isn't loaded. There will also shortly be a mail shot going around to all of you
with a special offer to buy DeskAlarm at a reduced price.
We have also crammed in the ability to configure whatever 3rd party installer you like to
run off the toolbar, rather than just the Palm® one. This was mainly in response to
request but also due to the fact that another company that we deal with, BackupBuddy
Software, have just released an excellent replacement to the standard Palm® install tool
called InstallBuddy. A future release of My Little Buddy will also have a direct
integration to the configuration of InstallBuddy as we currently do with BackupBuddyNG.
If you want further information about v2.60 the software please eMail me at the normal
address and I will update you as to any specific queries that you have. Also given the
time until release if anyone has a 'must have' enhancement then please eMail me and you
never know we may be able to get it in.
The Future
We are currently in on-going discussions with Cutting Edge Solutions, the authors of
Quicksheet, to provide an extended viewer for My Little Buddy and Quicksheet files. This
is at a very early stage and the scope of the project has somewhat escalated.
Also as JFile is about to be updated there will be a change to the JFile viewer over the
next few weeks.
As reported in the last newsletter, I think :), we are also looking at a complete rewrite
of My Little Buddy, such a lot has been learnt over the last 3 years or so about the
Palm® system that we feel that there is merit in re-writing. At present there is a lot of
paper building up with ideas, and features all over it. Authoring will probably start in
earnest during October. This process will give is a more streamlined My Little Buddy, a
faster My Little Buddy and a My Little Buddy that is more maneageable from our point of
view. This of course means that we are looking for all of your suggestions on what to
include in the app, perhaps what to exclude, and also if there is something we don't do
that you would like to see, then we would be only too happy to hear from you.
Feedback
Please keep your suggestions coming as to what you want in My Little Buddy, it's your
ideas that make it what it is today.
Easter Eggs
There are Easter Eggs in MLB (3 if I remember) and as yet no one has reported them. Two
are easy to find, one not so. Anyone who is the first to find the tough one will get a
prize (to be decided upon) and your name on the WWW site. Happy hunting.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, you never know there may be a volume three.
Cheers
Ian
